“He was summer and she was fall. He was adventure and she was comfort. But right now, on the cusp between the two seasons, in this liminal space they’d carved out for themselves, they fit just right.”

When a secret message appears tucked away in a book at the Cinnamon Bun Bookstore, Hazel is intrigued but completely baffled.

Before long, more coded notes are discovered, each one tucked between the pages as though waiting for her. Determined to uncover the truth, she decides to follow the trail but quickly realises she needs someone to help her piece it together.

Enter Noah.

A gorgeous, friendly fisherman with an adventurous streak and a long-standing crush on the shy bookseller. When Hazel asks him to join her on the scavenger hunt, he is more than happy to oblige.

Together, they follow the clues around Dream Harbor, and with each stop their connection deepens. Soon, the sparks between them are just as tempting as the bakery’s freshly baked cinnamon buns.

This is exactly the sort of book that makes me want to curl up with a blanket, a hot drink, and something sweet to nibble on. I loved how Laurie Gilmore captured that magical moment between seasons . The shift from warm summer days to crisp autumn mornings – where everything feels both comforting and full of possibility. The romance is warm and sweet, the banter is fun, and the treasure hunt element gives it a playful twist that kept me hooked.

The tropes hit perfectly for me: opposites attract, small-town life, forced proximity, and my personal favourite, he falls first. There is also a lovely undercurrent of community spirit that makes Dream Harbor feel like somewhere I could happily spend every weekend.

I really enjoyed The Pumpkin Spice Cafe, but The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore feels even more special. I am also so happy that I was able to get this in a limited edition version with the sprayed edge.

Laurie Gilmore has a real gift for creating these cosy, heart-stealing romances, and Dream Harbor has firmly found a place in my heart. This one left me smiling, hungry for a cinnamon bun, and already counting the days until the next instalment in the series.
