⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“The great thing about being more than seven thousand miles from home? You can do whatever the hell you want.”

In If We Ever Meet Again we meet Farrah Lin who is nineteen and spending a year abroad in Shanghai. She’s convinced this will be the year she falls in love.

The only problem?

The person she thinks she might love is her new friend’s boyfriend. And if that’s not complicated enough, she can’t seem to stop thinking about someone else, the cocky, blond athlete with an ego the size of the city and dimples to match.

Blake Ryan used to be a college football star, but after winning his third national championship, he shocked everyone by walking away from the sport completely.

Fleeing the noise, he heads to Shanghai with one rule, keep life simple.

No football, no commitments, no romance.

Of course, that goes out the window the moment Farrah comes into his life.

What begins as banter and attraction soon turns into something deeper. Against the vibrant backdrop of Shanghai, Farrah and Blake fall in love, knowing they only have one year together before reality pulls them apart.

I really enjoyed Ana Huang’s writing here. This first part of Blake and Farrah’s romance felt light, fun, and easy to get into once I let go of expecting twists or complexity. The story is predictable and a bit of a guilty pleasure, but that’s part of the charm.

The Shanghai setting is vivid, adding a refreshing cultural element that made the book stand out from the many college romances set in America.

Blake and Farrah’s chemistry felt believable, and I loved watching them shift from strangers to friends to lovers. The ending dragged slightly for me, which is why I’m leaning towards 3.5 stars rather than a full 4, but I’m still eager to pick up the sequel and see how their second-chance romance plays out.
