By Sophie Claire.
Christmas at the French Repair Shop by Sophie Claire is a beautifully cosy, second chance romance filled with warmth, gentle humour and a dash of festive spirit. Set between the charming English village of Willowbrook and the sunlit countryside of the South of France, this book perfectly blends small town familiarity with a touch of holiday escape.
Amélie runs a little repair shop in Willowbrook, restoring furniture and mending keepsakes in time for Christmas.
The village should be picture perfect, twinkling lights, snowflakes in the air and cosy evenings in front of the fire, but her festive spirit is lacking thanks to her recent breakup with Jack. They were perfect for each other once, until misunderstandings and hurt feelings pulled them apart. Now they cannot seem to stop running into one another, and their attempts to move on have become increasingly awkward.
When a prank gone wrong traps Jack in Amélie’s van, she has no choice but to bring him along on her trip to France for the holidays. Forced into close quarters, old wounds begin to surface, but so do the feelings they thought they had buried. Between shared laughter, long drives and quiet conversations, the two must decide if they can repair what was broken or finally let go.
This is a story about love, forgiveness and learning to trust again. The French setting is beautifully written, full of delicious food, glowing lights and peaceful festive touches that make the book feel comforting without being overly Christmassy. The chemistry between Amélie and Jack is both playful and tender, with just the right mix of teasing and emotional honesty.
Sophie Claire writes with warmth and empathy, creating characters who feel real and flawed yet easy to root for. I especially enjoyed how both Amélie and Jack’s personal growth was explored alongside their romance, giving the story emotional depth as well as charm.
A lovely, heart warming winter read, perfect for curling up with on a cold evening, hot chocolate in hand.
Thank you to the team at Hodder & Stoughton for sending me a finished copy of the book! The book is out now and available to purchase.
