I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the press night for Blood Brothers at the Alhambra Theatre. A special thank you to Emma for the invitation.

I have heard so much about this musical but had never had the opportunity to see it for myself. My friend Lucy watches it every year, so I knew this was something I needed to experience.

Blood Brothers tells the story of twin brothers separated at birth and raised in completely different worlds, only to unknowingly cross paths as their lives unfold. It is a simple concept, but one that carries a great deal of emotional weight.

The opening felt quite different to many musicals. There is no large opening number, but instead a slower, more atmospheric introduction to the backstreets of Liverpool. The staging really stood out, particularly as the city lights appeared one by one during the overture. The subtle foreshadowing throughout added depth and encouraged closer engagement with the story.

One of the most striking elements for me was the balance between humour and darker themes. There were many moments where the audience laughed together, creating a strong sense of shared experience.

The pacing felt consistent throughout, allowing the story to unfold clearly and ensuring the audience remained engaged. It is an emotional narrative, but it is told in an accessible and well-structured way.

The cast delivered strong performances across the board, maintaining energy and commitment throughout. Joe Sleight and Sean Jones were particularly impressive as Eddie and Mickey. Their portrayal of the characters across different stages of life felt natural and convincing, and their connection on stage was believable and engaging.

The final moments are where the production truly resonates. Tell Me It’s Not True was delivered with real emotional weight, leading into a closing scene that was both shocking and deeply affecting.

The suddenness of the ending created a noticeable reaction across the audience, myself included, and it is a moment that stays with you. Blood Brothers remains a powerful and impactful piece of theatre that continues to resonate with audiences.

Blood Brothers is currently touring all over the UK! Thank you to Emma and the team at Bradford for this wonderful yet emotional press night!
