This week, I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the Press Night for 2:22: A Ghost Story at Leeds Grand Theatre.

A special thank you to Kelly for the wonderful invitation. Whilst this production delivers plenty of tension and suspense, it is also exactly what you want from a gripping night at the theatre, immersive, entertaining and genuinely unsettling from beginning to end.

2:22: A Ghost Story continues to prove exactly why it has become one of the most talked about supernatural theatre experiences in recent years. Returning to the stage for its 2026 UK tour, the production arrives at Leeds Grand Theatre with the same chilling atmosphere, sharp writing and edge of your seat tension that made audiences fall in love with it in the first place.

Written by Danny Robins, this award winning production blends psychological suspense with moments of humour, creating a theatre experience that feels immersive from the very beginning. Since its original West End debut, the show has gone on to enjoy multiple sell out runs and international productions, cementing itself as a modern horror theatre phenomenon.

The story follows Jenny and Sam, a couple settling into their new home while tensions quietly simmer beneath the surface. Jenny becomes convinced that something supernatural is haunting the house, while Sam dismisses her fears entirely. As their friends Lauren and Ben join them for dinner, the evening slowly unravels into something increasingly unsettling as belief and scepticism collide.

What makes 2:22: A Ghost Story work so brilliantly is its ability to balance genuine fear with clever dialogue and emotionally charged performances. The script builds suspense gradually, allowing the audience to become completely invested before the more shocking moments begin to unfold. The production relies heavily on atmosphere, with lighting, sound and silence all playing equally important roles in creating tension throughout the performance.

The 2026 touring production continues to deliver the same gripping energy audiences have come to expect. The show remains brilliantly paced, with twists and revelations that keep the audience guessing until the very end. Even knowing the premise beforehand does not lessen the impact of the experience, as the live theatre setting creates a sense of unpredictability that makes every moment feel immediate and intense.

The staging at Leeds Grand Theatre works exceptionally well for this production. The setting enhances the claustrophobic atmosphere of the story, drawing the audience deeper into the mystery unfolding on stage. Combined with the sharp humour woven throughout the script, the production avoids becoming overwhelmingly dark while still maintaining an unsettling tone from beginning to end.

2:22: A Ghost Story is more than just a traditional ghost story. Beneath the supernatural elements lies a deeper exploration of grief, relationships, trauma and belief. It asks the audience what they would believe if confronted with the unexplained, and whether logic alone is always enough to provide answers.

For anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers, supernatural mysteries or immersive theatre experiences, this production is absolutely worth seeing. Tense, entertaining and genuinely unsettling in places, 2:22: A Ghost Story continues to stand out as one of the most successful modern theatre thrillers currently touring the UK.

2:22 A Ghost Story is at the Grand Theatre from 11th May 2026 to 16th May 2026. You can buy tickets here.
