Witch Season π§π»ββοΈ
By Julia Bianco.
Witch Season by Julia Bianco is a bold and immersive book that blends magic, power, and complex relationships into a world that feels both dangerous and compelling.
Katherine Barnes is an enforcer within the Aestas coven in Los Angeles, responsible for tracking down unsettled witches whose powers emerge in chaotic and often destructive ways. As someone who once experienced that loss of control herself, Katherine understands exactly how dangerous magic can be when left unchecked.
It is a role shaped by her past and by the woman who saved her, Sylvia Page.
Katherine is a brilliant central character. She is strong and capable but never untouchable. There is a constant sense that she is carrying the weight of who she used to be, which adds real depth to her character. I found myself rooting for her throughout, even when her choices were not always easy to agree with.
Everything shifts when Silas Khatri arrives.
As the heir to one of the most powerful covens, Silas represents everything Katherine stands against. His world is built on control, tradition, and power structures that leave little room for people like her. Their dynamic is immediate and filled with tension. There is frustration, conflict, and an undeniable pull that goes far beyond attraction.
What stood out most for me was how much they challenge each other. Their connection is not just romantic. It is rooted in opposing beliefs and values, which makes every interaction feel layered and meaningful.
The world building is another highlight. The covens feel fully realised, with their own politics and internal tensions. This is not simply a backdrop but something that actively shapes the story. When the larger threat begins to emerge, it feels like a natural progression rather than something forced.
The tension builds steadily throughout the book, leading to an ending that genuinely left me wanting more. It sets up what comes next while still delivering a strong and impactful conclusion.
This is a confident and gripping debut. It is intense, emotionally charged, and full of sharp character dynamics. I will absolutely be continuing with this series!
