The Silence Factory 🤫

By Bridget Collins.

The Silence Factory by Bridget Collins is a captivating and eerie gothic book that weaves together two timelines, blending Victorian intrigue with a touch of the fantastical.

In 1820, Sophia Ashmore-Percy accompanies her husband to a remote Greek island, where he seeks a rare biological specimen.

What begins as a reluctant journey soon leads her to a transformative discovery, connecting with a local woman and questioning her marriage, desires, and future.

Decades later, Henry Latimer, an audiologist, is tasked with curing the deafness of Sir Edward Ashmore-Percy’s daughter, Philomel. Drawn into the world of Sir Edward’s silk business, Henry becomes obsessed with a rare breed of spiders whose silk can shield sound and offer tranquillity, but at a price.

The closer he gets to the family and their secrets, the more he uncovers the sinister, unsettling effects of the silk and its dark history.

Collins’ writing is atmospheric, creating a compelling blend of mystery, desire, and the consequences of unchecked ambition.

The Silence Factory is a mesmerising book, combining gothic horror with elements of fantasy and science fiction. It is a tale of obsession, complicity, and corruption, with a chilling exploration of the price of silence and the lengths people will go to preserve their secrets.
