The Choir of Man 🎢🍻

The Alhambra Theatre.

This week, I was invited to attend the Press Night performance of The Choir of Man at Alhambra Theatre. A huge thank you to Leanne and the team for the invitation and for such a fun-filled (warm!) evening at the theatre.

The Choir of Man offers something a little different from the traditional musical theatre experience. Set entirely within a working pub, the production combines live music, storytelling and character driven performances to create a show that feels relaxed, welcoming and highly entertaining.

Rather than following a conventional plot, the show introduces a group of pub regulars whose personalities and experiences are explored through a mix of popular songs, spoken word and humour. The result is a production that focuses less on narrative and more on celebrating friendship, community and the connections people build through shared experiences.

The cast are undoubtedly the driving force behind the show. Each performer brings impressive vocal ability, musicianship and stage presence, moving effortlessly between singing, playing instruments and interacting with the audience. The chemistry feels genuine, helping to create an atmosphere that draws the audience into the world of the pub from the outset.

The highlight of the evening came during the finale, when two local choirs joined the cast for a moving rendition of Chandelier. The combination of voices filled the theatre and created one of those rare moments that genuinely gives you goosebumps. There was something incredibly emotional about seeing local performers sharing the stage, and it added an extra sense of occasion to a finale that left the audience on their feet.

While the show may not offer the complex storyline of a traditional musical, that is never really its intention. Instead, The Choir of Man focuses on creating a shared experience, one built around music, humour and a sense of togetherness. In that respect, it succeeds remarkably well.

For those looking for an enjoyable evening filled with strong performances, familiar songs and plenty of atmosphere, The Choir of Man is well worth a visit.

The Choir of Man is at The Alhambra Theatre from the 23rd June 2026 to the 27th June 2026. Tickets are still available, and you can buy your tickets here.
