⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I came back despite knowing the torture I’d have to go through because I can’t stay away from you. Even when you’re not there, you’re everywhere. In my head, in my lungs, in my fucking soul.”

Twisted Games is the second book in Ana Huang’s Twisted series and a definite step up from Twisted Love.

This one brings all the drama, longing and forbidden tension you'd expect from a bodyguard-princess romance, and then some. While it can be read as a standalone, I felt more invested knowing Bridget’s backstory from the first book.

Bridget von Ascheberg is a royal who never wanted the crown but finds herself next in line after her brother abdicates. She’s smart, duty-bound and desperate for freedom, both from tradition and from the carefully planned life others expect her to live.

Rhys Larsen is her new bodyguard, emotionally closed off, imposing, and not one to get personally involved. Except, of course, he does.

Their connection is undeniable from the start, but Ana Huang really leans into the slow burn, which I loved. Their relationship builds gradually, full of tension and push-pull moments that make the payoff so satisfying.

The chemistry is off the charts, but what I appreciated more was the emotional growth both characters went through. Bridget finds her voice, her strength and her sense of purpose, while Rhys slowly opens up and reckons with his own fear of vulnerability.

The second half picks up the pace with political intrigue, emotional stakes and high-tension moments that elevate the story beyond a standard romance. There are some dramatic twists, a few heartbreaks, and enough angst to keep you gripped until the very last page.

The only reason I didn’t give this a full five stars is that the major twist was fairly easy to predict by the halfway mark, which lessened some of the surprise. However, this did not detract from the overall enjoyment or emotional impact.

Highlights for me:

✨ Forbidden romance

✨ Princess/bodyguard trope

✨ Excellent slow burn tension

✨ Dual POV that added depth to both characters

✨ Rhys being the perfect grumpy protector

✨ Bridget learning to step into her power

This book felt more developed than the first and gave me exactly what I wanted. A must-read if you love intense romance with emotional payoff.
