By Maurice Gray.
The Missing Links of Tannadee by Maurice Gray is a wonderfully quirky and uplifting book set in the fictitious Scottish town of Tannadee.
Packed with eccentric characters, a charming setting and plenty of comedic moments, this book is a pure delight.
The story follows cocky American billionaire Gordon Weever, who is determined to become the head of the McShallach clan despite having no ancestral claim. Undeterred, he decides to manufacture his own credentials and hires two crooks to assist him.
The crooks, however, are more bumbling than brilliant and are entangled in a side plot involving a kidnapped dog that may hold the key to a long-lost stash of stolen money.
Meanwhile, the villagers of Tannadee are not about to let their traditions be trampled. With the support of Weever’s own daughter and son-in-law, a rival claimant with a far stronger connection to the clan enters the fray. Eventually, the outcome rests on an absurd but thoroughly entertaining football match, which had me laughing out loud more than once.
This is a story with a big heart. Maurice Gray brings together a cast of unforgettable characters in a plot that combines small-town charm with outrageous schemes. The humour is spot-on and the narrative moves with an energy that makes it a joy to read.
The Missing Links of Tannadee is a feel-good book brimming with mischief, warmth and hilarity. I loved every chaotic, comical moment.
