Speak Out Listen Up 📢

Speak Out, Listen Up is a powerful and practical guide for navigating the complex dynamics of power and communication in any setting. As someone who regularly supports staff and focuses on well-being within my NHS nursing role, this book provided me with valuable insights into creating an atmosphere where psychological safety can thrive.

One of the standout aspects is how it delves into both sides of communication—how to speak up effectively and, just as importantly, how to be a better listener. The emphasis on understanding how power dynamics can either enable or silence voices was eye-opening. This focus was especially relevant for me, as it highlighted the subtle ways power can influence team interactions and decision-making.

The structure of the book is excellent, with each chapter beginning with clear learning objectives and ending with key takeaways. The inquiry questions throughout are particularly well-crafted, prompting reflection and encouraging deeper understanding. I found myself having several "light-bulb moments" while reading, as the book’s insights often aligned with challenges I’ve faced in my work.

What I appreciated most was the balance between accessibility and depth. The authors manage to offer practical advice grounded in rigorous research without overwhelming the reader. The influence of Amy Edmondson's work on psychological safety is apparent, but this book stands on its own with a unique perspective and thoughtful guidance.

Thank you so much to both authors - Megan Reitz and John Higgins as well as the team at Literally PR for running this book tour.
