I was recently chosen to be a part of the new book tour for the books These Stolen Lives and This Shattered Promise.

Both books are by the amazing Sharada Keats and were sent out to me by Scholastic UK.

Both books explore weighty themes such as oppression, survival, resistance, identity, and the pursuit of power. But Sharada Keats handles them with grace and lyrical prose that is both compelling and deeply moving. There’s tension, heartache, rebellion, and romance all blended together in a story that is as intelligent as it is emotional.

With elements of folklore, morally grey characters, and a vividly imagined dystopian setting, this is a series that stands out in the YA space for all the right reasons.

These Stolen Lives:

Set six years after a brutal Skøl invasion, These Stolen Lives follows seventeen-year-old Mora, who is barely surviving in a world now governed by the oppressive Life Registry.

In this system, people are forced to repay their "debt to society" in order to simply stay alive. Mora lives in silence and shadows, haunted by the past, until her young friend Zako is sentenced to death.

What follows is a dangerous and daring mission to smuggle him to safety, uncovering terrifying truths along the way.

This book is gripping from the start. Sharada Keats has created a dystopian world that feels chillingly possible, and her characters are rich with complexity and heart.

Mora’s resilience and determination are especially powerful, and the emotional stakes are high throughout.

This Shattered Promise:

Due to be released on 14 August 2025, This Shattered Promise picks up where the first book left off, expanding the story with dual perspectives from both Mora and Kit. The sequel promises higher stakes, new enemies, and deeper exploration of the mythology that threads through this world.

As Mora is pulled into a dangerous alliance with the sinister Sciencemaster General, Kit’s journey leads him into new and unfamiliar territory, including encounters with pirates and an ancient people who may hold the key to humanity’s survival.

There are whispers of immortality, betrayals waiting to unfold, and the ever-present weight of the past bearing down on their choices.

I have a feeling this will be even more powerful than the first book. I love when a sequel dares to take risks, and this one looks ready to challenge everything we thought we knew about this world.
