This week, I was thrilled to receive a special delivery of book mail—all from the incredible Icon Books.
It's always exciting to get my hands on new reads from Icon Books and these editions are stunning.
The Drummond Affair by Stephanie Matthews & Daniel Smith:
Part true crime, part Cold War history, this book reopens the mysterious 1952 murders of Sir Jack Drummond, his wife, and their young daughter in the south of France.
At the time, a local farmer was swiftly convicted, but as Matthews and Smith show, the truth may be far more complex. With espionage, media bias, and Cold War paranoia in the mix, this re-investigation challenges the official version of events and asks big questions about justice.
I'm a huge fan of smart, investigative nonfiction, and this has all the elements I love—meticulous research, political intrigue, and the kind of story that makes you want to immediately Google everything. It’s dark, gripping, and deeply thought-provoking.

Human History on Drugs by Sam Kelly:
A wildly entertaining and genuinely educational look at the drug-filled lives of history’s biggest names.
From Shakespeare’s love of cannabis to Queen Victoria’s opium prescriptions and Carl Sagan’s cosmic highs, this book digs into the substances behind the stories we thought we knew.
As someone with a strong interest in history, I found this book to be incredibly engaging. It is both clever and insightful, packed with surprising facts that continually challenged my assumptions.
Sam Kelly’s writing strikes an excellent balance between being humorous and informative, offering an accessible yet well-researched take on historical figures and their lesser-known habits.
It’s the kind of book that stays with you and one I found myself wanting more of.
