Writer: The_Secret_BookreviewThe_Secret_Bookreview

This week's round-up of beautiful book mail!

I'm excited to begin sharing a roundup of the book mail I've received recently. I can't wait to delve into these books and share my thoughts through reviews!

As always, thank you to all the authors and publishers for sending these out to me! 🫶🏻

Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney:

Beautiful Ugly is a thrilling mystery that follows Grady Green, a man consumed by grief after his wife, Abby, mysteriously disappears. On what should have been the best day of his life, Grady calls Abby to share exciting news, only to hear her slam on the brakes and then vanish without a trace.

When he finds her car by the cliff edge, the headlights are on, the door is open, and her phone is left behind—yet Abby is nowhere to be found.

A year later, Grady is still struggling to cope with her disappearance. Unable to write and plagued by sleepless nights, he travels to a small Scottish island in an attempt to reclaim some sense of normalcy. There, he encounters a woman who looks strikingly like Abby, sparking a new obsession and reigniting his desperate search for the truth.

This suspenseful and atmospheric story explores themes of loss, obsession, and the complexities of marriage. Feeney’s masterful storytelling keeps readers hooked, leading them through a web of twists and turns until the final, shocking revelation.

Thank you so much to Maruneejaa at Pan Macmillan for sending me a finished copy of the book! The book is available to buy now!

Sociopath by Patric Gagne:

Sociopath: A Memoir is a captivating and honest account of the author’s struggle with sociopathy and their journey to understand and reshape their life.

From an early age, Patric realised they didn’t experience emotions like others—fear, guilt, and empathy eluded them. This “nothingness” led them to lie, steal, and become violent, all in an attempt to fill the emotional void.

In college, Patric confirmed they were a sociopath, but the lack of treatment options left them feeling hopeless. Despite the stigma surrounding sociopathy, they found hope when reconnecting with an old flame. This relationship proved that love was possible, showing that they were not a monster.

Patric’s memoir is a powerful story of self-discovery and resilience, challenging stereotypes around sociopathy and demonstrating that even those with such a diagnosis can build lives full of love and hope.

Thank you so much to the team at Pan Macmillan for sending a copy of the book in time for the paperback release. Both hardback and paperback copies are available to buy now!

The Teller of Small Fortunes by Julie Leong:

The Teller of Small Fortunes is a heartwarming debut fantasy about Tao, an immigrant fortune teller, who travels between villages with her mule as her only companion.

She specialises in small fortunes—harmless predictions like when the cow will calve or which boy the barmaid will kiss—after learning the hard way that bigger fortunes come with bigger risks.

Though Tao’s life is lonely, it’s far better than the one she left behind. But everything changes when a reformed thief and an ex-mercenary enlist her help in their search for a lost child. Soon, they’re joined by a baker with a thirst for adventure and a slightly magical cat, forming an unlikely and endearing group.

As Tao opens up to her companions, she faces the ghosts of her past and must decide whether to risk everything for the family she never imagined having. At its heart, The Teller of Small Fortunes explores themes of loss, grief, loneliness, and the transformative power of friendship and hope.

The book is not just about the places Tao visits, but about the relationships that shape her journey.

Thank you so much to the team at Hodder & Stoughton for sending me a final copy of the book! The book is available to buy now in hardback.
